Retreat Cottages are within a few strides of the beach and Fife Coastal Path. Ideal for couples

Crusoe Building, a B-listed property which lies on the original site of the birthplace of
Alexander Selkirk - the original castaway who inspired Daniel Defoe to write the tales of

of Sandford House in the heart of the Fife countryside, Sandford House Country Cottages
comprise six beautifully appointed 5 Star cottages. Originally built in 1902 for Dundee
photographic publisher Harben J Valentine and designed by renowned Arts and Crafts
architect Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott, the house offers a rare opportunity to stay within
a truly significant and characterful property. Rebuilt following a devastating fire in
1910 and later operating as a popular country house hotel before falling into disrepair,
Sandford House has since been beautifully restored, allowing guests to experience its
original charm while being within easy reach of St Andrews, world-renowned golf courses
and the Kingdom’s best beaches. Each cottage has its own entrance door and most feature
a private sun terrace or balcony, with all guests enjoying access to the seven-acre garden.
Interiors blend period character with boutique styling, combining contemporary comfort
with antique furnishings. Each cottage offers an open plan kitchen, living and dining area
with a log fire (excepting Red Squirrel). Every bedroom has en-suite facilities, with
